About The Position

The Magnet Program Director (MPD) is a highly visible role that provides leadership and strategic oversight of the organization's pursuit of Magnet designation. The MPD works collaboratively to maintain a culture of nursing excellence by ensuring the Magnet framework and essential domains are enculturated and hardwired into the organization through coordination, education, and consultation with team members and leadership.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of recent and progressive managerial experience preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of recent and progressive managerial experience required. With special consideration of previous experience as a Magnet Program Director with successful Magnet Designation required.
  • Master’s degree in nursing, business administration, or education required. If master’s degree is not in nursing, a BSN is required.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Current State of New Jersey Registered Nurse License required.
  • Specialty certification in nursing practice required. (Nursing specialty certification preferred; must be obtained within two years of hire.)

  • Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Nursing specialty certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintains expert knowledge of current Magnet requirements and ensures organizational awareness and success by serving as a liaison to the ANCC Magnet Program Office.
  • Manages all components of the Magnet application process including development and submission of written documentation and coordination of the site visit.
  • Collaborates with the senior nursing leadership team to ensure the nursing strategic plan supports efforts to achieve and maintain all aspects of the Magnet program.
  • Participates in and provides guidance and direction to professional governance councils and committees related to organizational goals and Magnet criteria.
  • Collaborates with leadership and professional governance councils to continuously improve clinical, patient experience, and nurse engagement outcomes related to Magnet standards.
  • Provides education and mentorship related to Magnet requirements for nursing, physicians, and other interprofessional partners to create an environment of nursing excellence.
  • Communicates effectively with organizational leaders, staff, and interprofessional team members to ensure collaborative working relationships among diverse groups.
  • Collaborates across the organization to ensure necessary quality data is collected and reported according to Magnet requirements.
  • Provides leadership to the Magnet Steering Committee and champions, including education of evidence necessary to demonstrate the components of the Magnet Program.
