About The Position

A Manual Machinist is responsible for a variety of machine‐specific functions—from setting‐up equipment, loading materials and operating machinery, to monitoring and optimizing efficiency, maintaining machines and performing quality checks. A machinist will typically have the knowledge and ability to operate and maintain several machines. Our positions are full-time, year-round employment with paid training. Requirements

  • We are seeking candidates with varying levels of qualifications and experience for our open positions.
  • We require a minimum 1-2 years of experience or a relevant technical degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess expertise and/or certification in Advanced Welding Techniques.
  • Hold Certification in Non‐Destructive Testing.
  • Possess high level of machining Aptitude.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Operates various machines as part of the production process to produce parts for the locomotive industry in accordance with AAR, customer specifications, company guidelines and checklists.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with PR safety policies.
  • Operate manual machines including horizontal mills, engine lathes, and manual grinders to produce locomotive motor parts and axles.
  • Use precision gauges and instruments such as micrometers to determine and follow customers specifications.
  • Maintain specifications by observing, drilling, grooving and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations, taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes.
  • Adjusting and reprogramming controls, sharpening and replacing worn tools, adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Operate overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities within time standards allowed.
  • Maintain specifications by observing, drilling, grooving and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations, taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprogramming controls.
  • Sharpening and replacing worn tools, adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Troubleshoot and repair various machines.
