CNC Machinists are responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC lathe machines to produce complex aerospace components with precision and efficiency. Depending on experience and skill level, machinists may work under direct supervision or operate independently, demonstrating increasing levels of technical expertise and leadership. Core responsibilities include loading and unloading parts, performing in-process inspections using hand and advanced measuring tools, and completing documentation to ensure quality standards are met. Machinists set up fixtures, cutting tools, and CNC programs, adjusting offsets as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy. They perform deburring operations, basic and advanced preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot machining processes to optimize performance. Experienced machinists are proficient in using inspection tools such as height gauges, air gauges, and bench inspection equipment. At the highest level, they are capable of setting up and running all site-specific CNC and conventional machines, designing and manufacturing complex tooling, and mentoring junior machinists while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
