About The Position

Ameren Missouri has been providing electric and gas service for more than 100 years, and our electric rates are among the lowest in the nation. Ameren Missouri's mission is to power the quality of life for our 1.2 million electric and 132,000 natural gas customers in central and eastern Missouri. Our service area covers 64 counties and more than 500 communities including the greater St. Louis area Under direct, indirect, or intermittent supervision, and working a rotating shift schedule or day schedule as required, to do a general range of plant mechanical equipment installation, repair and overhaul, including ability to perform skilled machinist work requiring tolerances as low as +.0005”. Immediate responsibility at times for working directions of an apprentice. Mechanical equipment includes items such as turbines, pumps, compressors, conveyors, pulverizers, coal samplers, feeders, pulleys, overhead cranes, soot blowers, safety valves, blowers, power transmission equipment. In connection with this work: Work from drawings and sketches. Check (including Workman’s Protection Assurance where appropriate) to insure that equipment to be worked on has been properly isolated and protected. Obtain required materials from storeroom. Set up rigging and operate lifting equipment. Erect and work from scaffolds. Operate and/or use mobile equipment, shop equipment, portable power tools, other portable tools, hand tools and test equipment as required to accomplish assigned jobs. Operate acetylene or other cutting/heating torches. When necessary, check for explosive gases before operating torches. Prepare reports of work done accompanied by sketches, if necessary; complete such forms as may be required. Work alone or in combination with other Machinist Repairman or Repairman classifications when assigned. Do similar and less skilled work as required.

Requirements

  • Qualification standards as established in the Apprenticeship Program.
  • Must satisfy requirements as prescribed in the Supplementary Agreement on Uniform Practices Regarding Promotion to Machinist Repairman Jobs.
  • Must be accurate, steady and calm in emergencies; possess normal physical strength and endurance; and have no color deficiency in vision.

  • Observing and insuring that those temporarily under his direction observe safety instructions issued or applicable.
  • Performing work without disturbing other equipment.
  • Executing orders quickly and properly.
  • Accuracy of work within required tolerances or specifications.
  • Special care and watchfulness to avoid errors in the repair and assembly of equipment.
  • Proper use and care of a wide variety of tools, material, and equipment.
  • Disposition of surplus and scrap materials after each job and keeping areas where work is performed clean and orderly to maintain an atmosphere conducive to good work practices and safety.
