About The Position

Drake Plastics is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Machinist to join our precision manufacturing team. This role will specialize in centerless grinding, a critical finishing process for achieving tight tolerances and high-quality surface finishes on precision components. Centerless grinding is a specialized skill, so we are open to training an experienced manual lathe machinist, Blanchard grinder, or abrasive machining technician who has the aptitude and desire to learn this process. The candidate will also have the opportunity to cross-train in lapping, waterjet cutting, and other precision finishing operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3+ years of experience in a machining environment.
• Hands-on experience with manual lathes, Blanchard grinders, or similar precision equipment.
• Ability to read blueprints and understand geometric tolerancing (GD&T).
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to producing high-quality work with attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with centerless grinding operations.
• Familiarity with abrasive machining, lapping or surface finishing processes.
• Basic understanding of CNC equipment or setup experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and maintain centerless grinding equipment to produce precision parts to specifications.
• Measure and inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision instruments.
• Adjust machining settings, tooling, and setups to maintain part quality and production efficiency.
• Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical drawings.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to continuously improve processes.
• Learn and perform lapping, waterjet, or other abrasive machining processes as needed.
• Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
