About The Position

They design and deliver high-technology aerospace components that keep aircraft and space systems flying safely, reliably, and efficiently. Zenix Aerospace Jet Products specializes in producing complex machined rings and ring components in various alloys for airframe structural rings, assemblies, and turbine engines. The Machinist Apprentice I role involves developing an understanding of setting up and operating conventional and/or computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines, gaining hands-on experience in fitting and assembling parts, making adjustments to specifications, and monitoring work under mentor guidance. The apprentice will learn to plan and execute machining assignments using various machine tools and gain experience with precision measuring tools.

Requirements

Ability to read blueprints, drawings, or templates.
Ability to perform basic shop math including fractions, decimals, and various units of measure.
Knowledge of machines and tools.
Ability to control operations of equipment and watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure machine is working properly.
Ability to move, install, position, and handle materials.
High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
1 year of related work experience in a manufacturing environment or completion of Vocational/Trade School with CNC practicum.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates understanding of set-ups, adjustments, and operations of conventional and/or computer controlled machines to position tools or regulate cutting depth, speed, feed, or coolant flow to produce precision metal parts and materials as specified by work order, blueprints, drawing, templates, or layout.
Understands how to determine specifications or procedures for tooling requirements, set up procedures, machine operation, work-piece dimensions or numerical control sequences using blueprints, instructions, and machine knowledge.
Develops knowledge of mounting, aligning, and securing tooling, attachments and work-piece on machine chuck. Understands starts and stops during automatic operation of numerical control machine parts or test setup, work-piece dimensions, or programming. Learns about adjustments to machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machine malfunctions.
Monitors and gains understanding of maintaining machines during use in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and any needs for adjustments or repairs. Learns about performing routine machine maintenance.
Gains understanding of ensuring proper dimensions of finished material to ensure conformance to specifications.
Cleans machine, tooling, parts, and area surrounding machine in accordance with 5S procedures when necessary.
Demonstrates ability to appear for work on time, follows directions from a supervisor, interacts well with co-workers, understands and follows work rules and procedures, complies with corporate policies, goals and objectives, accepts constructive feedback and exhibits initiative and commitment.
Communicates with assigned mentor regularly regarding assigned trainings.
