POSITION SUMMARY: The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing execution of department production demands, leading a team of machinists in setting up and machining production parts, prototypes, and tooling. This position is a working supervisor role and will spend at least 50 percent of the time machining parts to specifications using both manual and CNC machine tools such as lathes, diamond turning lathes, Swiss lathes, and mills. The supervisor will measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and drop gauges. This position is expected to drive continuous improvement in the department. This work will be completed by engaging with Engineering and Operations leaders to identify inefficiencies, brainstorm ideas, and execute on improvement projects. Possible improvements may include, but not be limited to, production scheduling, product flow and footprint refinement, work cell creation, 5S, work center staging, daily management meetings, and employee development plans. The shop mostly runs low-volume tight-tolerance parts. Competency in CNC programming using MasterCam is essential.
