  • No CNC Dependency: Must be able to perform all calculations manually (trigonometry for angles and tapers) without software assistance.
  • Quality Control: Ability to maintain tolerances as tight as + 0.001inches on manual equipment
  • High school degree/GED is preferred. Experience in regulatory driven environments
  • Mathematical skills are a must
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously

  • Strict adherence to Hurst Boiler safety protocols
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills for one-off repairs or custom fabrications
  • Requires strong communication skills to machine items as requested based on timelines and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manual Operation that includes set up and operation of manual machines, including engine lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, radial arm drills, and grinders, etc.
  • Precision Craftsmanship is key to perform complex machining operations such as turning, facing, threading, boring, and tapering without the aid of CNC automation.
  • Blueprint Literacy is necessary to interpret technical drawings, engineering blueprints, and job specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and bore gauges) to ensure all parts meet rigorous Hurst quality standards.
  • Tool Maintenance: Grind and sharpen high-speed steel (HSS) and carbide cutting tools to suit specific materials and finishes.
  • Select appropriate work-holding methods (chucks, collets, vises, and jigs) and cutting speeds/feeds based on the material (carbon steel, stainless, brass, etc.).
