Under general supervision, the Machine Shop Apprentice performs disassembly, cleaning, inspecting, preparation, and reassembly of engine cylinder heads. They are also responsible for the daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of the shop, tools, equipment, and machinery.

  • Removal of valve train components from cylinder head core using appropriate tools
  • Use of welder to apply heat/leverage to remove valve seats from cylinder heads
  • Use of angle grinder, drills, and various metallic cleaning tools to remove carbon/paint from cylinder heads
  • Operation of parts washer and ultrasonic machine to remove build up/debris
  • Utilization of measuring tools to include micrometers, calipers, ball gauges to perform pre-machine inspections
  • Perform repair to cylinder head casting or thread repair
  • Use of automotive hydraulic press to remove and install new valve train components
  • Use of digital programs to input data for tracking
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned shop area, tools, equipment, and machinery
  • All other duties assigned.
  • High School or GED
  • No previous experience.
  • Ability to obtain Crane and Forklift Certifications by the end of the probationary period. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Must be able to provide valid I-9 documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility, such as a U.S. passport, permanent resident card, or a combination of a state-issued ID and Social Security card or birth certificate.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting, as well as independently.
  • Ability to multitask and perform duties simultaneously.
  • Ability to follow established safety, quality, and production protocol.
  • Ability to work under stress in a high tempo environment.

  • Must be able to pass a WorkSTEPS physical.
  • Willing to work Monday-Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM.
  • Willing to consent to and pass a background check and drug screening.

  • Previous relevant experience.
