About The Position

The Machine Setup & Operator II is to efficiently and safely set up and operate the various pieces of production equipment within the facility. An operator in this position is expected to work in a hands-on fashion, to take ownership of the quality and quantity of product produced during their shift and to be actively involved in continual process improvements. The Machine Setup & Operator II will be responsible for assisting in training the Machine Operator I and will run more technical machines to produce company products.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 Years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 to 3 years' experience in manufacturing setting running woodworking equipment.
  • Ability to functionally use a computer to perform detailed inquiries, update information, print reports, create, and modify items daily (i.e.: Microsoft products, WMS/ERP System).
  • Demonstratable working knowledge of arithmetic and geometry with ability to use various measuring devices such as calipers, height gauges, set-up blocks, tape measures, etc.
  • Capability to communicate efficiently with all levels of employees, management, customers, and vendors both verbally and in written form.
  • Capacity to multi-task with speed and accuracy while prioritizing tasks and ability to maintain excellent organizational skills to effectively troubleshoot and problem-solve.
  • Demonstratable ability to read engineering style drawings, diagrams, and sketches.
  • Use of proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and company approved tools while remaining aware of hazards and maintaining a safe work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 to 5 years' experience in manufacturing setting running woodworking equipment.
  • Prior experience with set-up and production use of standard manual wood working machines.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates equipment including moulders, lathes, automatic turning lathes, gluepress, fingerjointer, routers and other ancillary equipment needed to shape, profile, turn or otherwise fabricate products made from wood material.
  • Reads work orders and examine product specifications to determine setup procedures, material to be used, and proper run sequence.
  • Selects and installs cutting heads and/or tooling on equipment according to profile and other specifications.
  • Verifies characteristics of materials in process, using gauges, rulers, calipers, templates, schedules, and work instructions to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Inspects material for defects prior to and after processing.
  • Ensures processes are achieving goals for output, downtime, and scrap.
  • Accurately reports production activity through system transactions, written documents, and reports.
  • Identifies and communicate machine maintenance and / or performance issues.
  • Ensures proper guarding and safety devices are functioning and in use.
  • Will be responsible to train new hires or new departmental transfers.
  • Provides coverage as needed in other areas within or outside of the department.
  • May work overtime, alternate shifts and weekends as needed on short notice.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
