This hourly role follows the Scotts/Hawthorne step pay progression scale and typically starts at $19.90 per hour and is paid weekly. Scotts/Hawthorne will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. We are looking for a Machine Operator to join our Scotts Miracle Gro team in Jackson, GA! What you’ll do in this role: On a daily basis, ensure safety is your number one priority and partner with the team to identify/eliminate risks by following all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment (e.g. lock out tag out, confined space, seatbelts, PPE). Support production lines by following daily production schedules, working with loader operators, and supplying materials as needed (e.g. raw materials, pallets, bags). Follow standard operating procedures to operate various pieces of high speed and/or high tech processing and packaging equipment (e.g. infeed systems, grinder, bagger, palletizer, stretch wrapper). Perform housekeeping duties to ensure raw material does not accumulate under the conveyors, aisle ways and catwalks by following safety practices to avoid injuries. Troubleshoot problems with machinery and partner with maintenance staff to resolve issues (e.g. line down time, product quality). Calibrate processing and packaging systems daily to meet required specification through entering commands in control panels / HMI or manual adjustments (e.g. centerlines). Participate in start-up, change over and shut down of operating equipment. Perform clean, inspect, and lubricate tasks on equipment, as necessary per our site requirements Perform change overs including disassembly and reassembly of necessary equipment, adjustments, and calibrations. Perform centerline checks once a shift to ensure equipment is running per manufacturer recommendations. Responsible for executing all required production and quality process and documentation checks (e.g. volume fill, seal quality, and particle size checks). Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase process efficiency

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment or equipment repair.
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including: standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces and lifting at least 50 lbs.
  • Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including nights and weekends.
  • Willing and able to adhere to all safety standards and wear all necessary personal protective equipment.
  • Knowledge of quality concepts and methods.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to understand end-to-end production equipment and flows.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior forklift certification or experience.
