The Cabler/Taper Operator is responsible for the setting-up and the operation of the 66” cabler to combine component sub-assemblies into a twisted bundle.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent, required
  • Ability to process information to compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, verify information or data.
  • Ability to monitor and review information to detect and assess problems.
  • Near Vision - ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of observer)
  • Far Vision – ability to see details at a distance
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and moving of the whole body, such as climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, and handling of material.
  • Spend time using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Spend time standing, as well as sitting, bending, squatting, and reaching
  • Use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things
  • Wear common protective and safety equipment
  • Spend time making repetitive motions
  • Lifting of at least 70 pounds, carrying at least 50 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 600 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training, preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting is preferred, but not required
  • Monitoring – watching gauges, dials, material usage or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
  • Equipment selection – determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Control Precision – adjust controls of the machine to exact positions
  • Communication – understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Getting information – observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources
  • Cognitive thinking – problem solving, prioritizing activities, allocate resources, maintain an adequate supply of materials, make sound decisions, and recommend solutions in troubleshooting and repairing in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ability to make quick decisive decisions concerning product and machine adjustments needed to ensure product quality

  • Evaluating Information to determine compliance with standards - using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.

Responsibilities

  • Strive to achieve continuous improvement in all activities, processes, and with all projects at Unitherm.
  • Understands and follows safety practices and the ability to promote safety in all processes and activities.
  • Ability to perform quality work without supervision.
  • Load payoff(s) using hoist.
  • Load with sub-assembly to properly correspond with lay-up chart.
  • Load tapes, binder and fillers as required on appropriate payoff equipment.
  • Set-up equipment with proper dies, tensions, payoff angles to perform function and perform external setups while in operation.
  • Operate main equipment and auxiliary equipment to perform function
  • Operate respooling equipment to ensure proper handling and quality of finished product
  • Maintain manufacturing control system paperwork (line logs, move tickets, etc.) and accurately complete all required production, quality, and manufacturing documentation
  • Inspect product/samples for quality acceptance.
  • Interpret and follow tool sheets, work orders, and bills of materials
  • Maintain work area housekeeping and assist in department housekeeping, including cleaning equipment and tools, etc.
  • Understanding and knowledge of when to report unusual conditions, defective material or equipment to a supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Communicates with other shift operators as to schedule and/or problems
  • Assists with training of new employees; assists with cross-training of current employees
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
