About The Position

SUMMARY: Experienced level of maintenance mechanic. Spends majority of time assisting more experienced maintenance mechanic to keep plant machinery and mechanical equipment in good repair. Examines machines to diagnose trouble, dismantles machines, replaces defective parts, reassembles machines and makes necessary adjustments to ensure efficient operation. On the job training provided by experienced maintenance mechanic. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions. Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments. Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts. Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments. Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance and service. Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment. Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt. Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests via Facilities Action Request Traveler forms, email, text messaging or phone calls. Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks. Maintains continuity among work teams over multiple shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed and as self-directed.

Requirements

  • Technical knowledge and ability to maintain production and facilities equipment
  • Knowledge and ability to use machine shop tools such as lathes, drill presses, mills, welding equipment
  • Knowledge of basic shop safety
  • Ability to work safely
  • Ability to frequently use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls
  • Ability to frequently grasp, open, close, and move tools using hands and wrists
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 75 lbs. and frequently lift up to approximately 30 lbs.
  • Ability to constantly stand

  • Ability to push, pull, pry, bend, squat and reach throughout the shift
