About The Position

TEKsystems is seeking a Low Voltage Technician to support commercial structured cabling projects. This individual will be responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting copper and fiber cabling systems in a commercial environment. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with fiber installation, cable termination, and Fluke testing, and can work independently or as part of a team to meet project timelines while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Experience pulling and installing fiber optic cable
  • Experience testing cabling using Fluke testers
  • Experience terminating copper and fiber optic cabling
  • Strong communication skills and high level of dependability
  • Self‑motivated, professional, and team‑oriented
  • Proven problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills
  • Ability to act as a liaison with customer representatives
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check
  • Ability to work at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to distinguish colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals
  • Willingness to travel within the branch and/or regional territory as needed

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre‑termination work including organizing, forming, dressing, labeling cables, and determining proper length and slack
  • Pull, route, suspend, and support cable using cable tray, J‑hooks, D‑rings, bridal rings, and trapeze systems
  • Build and install telecom closets, including: Backboards Racks and patch panels Cross‑connects Fiber optic hardware Grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling
  • Install work area outlets for floor and wall locations
  • Terminate CAT3 and CAT5 jacks
  • Mount faceplates and surface‑mount boxes
  • Follow company and customer labeling standards
  • Complete all IDC connections including 110 and 66 blocks and patch panels
  • Perform cable testing and troubleshooting: Continuity testing of horizontal and riser cable Use of volt‑ohm meters and tone sets Troubleshoot opens, shorts, crosses, and transposed pairs Identify active voice and data circuits
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork including timesheets, work orders, material transfers, and change orders
  • Follow all company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
