About The Position

Seeking an experienced DB2 LUW Database Engineer for a long term contract role in Milwaukee WI. In this role, you will support database systems including analysis, planning, design, development, implementation, migration to new servers, implementing high-availability, and upgrades. You will apply established best practices, take charge of complex systems to achieve strategic objectives while aligning to the company's practices in service management, risk management, and feature delivery.

Requirements

Minimum 3 years' experience in database administration
Recent experience with DB2LUW and Unix
Experience with the application of DB2 LUW database patches
Basic scripting knowledge: Unix shell scripting
Experience with database tools and monitors
Ability to develop estimates for support or projects
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with team members and clients
Ability to set priorities for scope, risk, and quality of technology solutions
Ability to effectively communicate issues and solutions to all levels of the organization
Ability to influence and coach peers

Nice To Haves

Experience with other relational database management systems, such as Sybase and SQL Server

Responsibilities

Execute detailed database tasks and create associated deliverables (or guide junior team members to) such as:
Manage database storage
Manage Schema objects
Administer security and users
Manage and monitor database performance
Schedule and automate jobs
Perform backup and recovery
Upgrade databases or migrate them to new environments as needed
Troubleshoot and provide subject-matter expertise on database incidents and long-term problem solutions
Collaborate with other engineers and administrators on database design, configuration, and performance issues
As a strategic thinker, move between diverse tasks with cooperation and persistence, helping to bring out the best in those around them
Provide estimates of the work, as needed, as well as active status reporting of the work via the team's Kanban board in Jira
Educate others in support of teaching them to take on database tasks themselves, including effective use of query plans and other tools they can use to improve database performance
