About The Position

The Long-Term Substitute Teacher for Grade 2 is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and maintaining a positive, structured classroom environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The long-term substitute will implement established lesson plans, follow district curriculum, and support the academic, social, and emotional development of all students.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts DESE licensure preferred (Elementary Education Grades 1-6 or Early Childhood Grades PK-2))
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience teaching at the elementary level preferred.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow established plans while adapting instruction as needed.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Implement daily lesson plans aligned with district curriculum and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Deliver instruction in core academic areas, including literacy and mathematics.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and well-managed classroom environment.
  • Use effective classroom management strategies consistent with school expectations.
  • Assess student learning through assignments, observations, and formative assessments.
  • Provide feedback to students to support academic growth.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English Learners, in collaboration with support staff.
  • Communicate professionally with families, colleagues, and administrators as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance and student work.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school activities as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with grade-level colleagues and specialists to support student learning.
