About The Position

Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide practical nursing care to clients living in subacute or inpatient treatment settings. In this role, you will deliver hands‑on nursing care within the scope of LPN practice while collaborating closely with Registered Nurses, medical providers, and multidisciplinary treatment teams. You will support medication administration, health monitoring, and client education while helping maintain safe and responsive treatment environments. Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program approved by the WA State Board of Nursing
  • EXPERIENCE: Entry level (no prior related work experience)
  • LICENSURE: Active and unencumbered LPN license in Washington State.
  • Maintain a working knowledge and skill in verbal de-escalation skills as outlined in Proact and other agency-mandated training
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.
  • Communication ‑ Communicates clearly and concisely.
  • Time management to address the needs of clients during the scheduled shift
  • Ability to designate non-nursing tasks to support staff. Coordinate with the shift supervisor for unit safety and other client needs.

Nice To Haves

  • EDUCATION: Associates’ degree in Nursing.
  • EXPERIENCE: Two years of LPN experience preferred but not mandatory; Two years of experience in mental health also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct client admission exams using approved protocols and assess medical stability for residential care.
  • Communicate and coordinate with outpatient providers to verify, process, and implement orders.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document client responses to medications and treatment interventions.
  • Create and maintain accurate eMARs and perform medication administration in accordance with nursing best practices.
  • Support other staff with medication observation and assist clients in obtaining prescriptions.
  • Maintain and document medication inventory, including controlled substances, and oversee monthly supply orders.
  • Implement emergency procedures and clinical interventions as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members—including MHPs, behavioral health techs, and care team assistants—to ensure client safety and care.
  • Participate in discharge planning and medication education for clients leaving the unit.
  • Lead or support client wellness groups and actively engage clients in program activities.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and agency policies when handling limited client information disclosures.
