The LPN Inpatient is responsible for direct and /or indirect care of the patient under the direction of an RN. The employee works on the different medical/surgical units or specialty areas based on the staffing needs of each nursing unit. Assignments may vary from day to day. Contributes to the nursing assessment by collecting, reporting and documenting objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner. Notifies the appropriate nursing team members/team leaders and medical staff of changes in the patient's status. Collects and records information pertinent to the patient's status. Collaborates with all team members in the continuous evaluation of the patient , including responses to nursing interventions. Participates in the revisions to the patient care plan when appropriate. Assists with administration and delivery of medications, treatments and other patient care duties as ordered by the Physician. The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. He or she must also be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs. The employee must also provide the care needed as described in the nursing unit's policies and procedures.
