About The Position

HealthPartners is hiring for an LPN/Medical Assistant/EMT at our Minneapolis Nokomis Clinic. The LPN position involves identifying common and recurring nursing needs, recognizing the need for and performing routine office procedures and testing in the ambulatory care setting, assisting patients to achieve basic health care goals, identifying patient education needs, providing instruction and referring appropriately, and documenting observations, actions and patient outcomes. It also includes providing safe, accurate and clinically competent direct care to patients and families, recognizing patient’s abnormalities or urgent problems and seeking appropriate assistance, obtaining health history information, obtaining accurate vital signs, teaching techniques or providing information according to established programs, accurately and appropriately documenting procedures and treatment, communicating information to other members of the health care team, providing current and accurate information regarding procedures and care, performing telephone screening under direction of RN or MD, assuring patients’ rights to privacy, safety and confidentiality, maintaining current practice through continuing education, maintaining CPR certification, serving as a catalyst in improving standards of LPN practice, serving as a role model for technical conduct and practice, providing support to professional and technical staff, solving problems appropriately, and effecting positive response from patients and other members of the healthcare team through interpersonal skills. The Medical Assistant position responsibilities include rooming patients and completing vital signs and other pertinent physical measurements, administering medication and clinical procedures according to authorized policy, reviewing charts for pertinent information, providing and documenting health educational materials, handling patient and their records privately and confidentially, seeking medical and/or nursing assistance for acutely ill patients or those with changing conditions, preparing exam and treatment rooms, assisting providers, preparing patients for medical interventions, preparing charts and records for appointments, checking MSRs, preparing lab, x-ray and miscellaneous forms, processing drug refills, monitoring station logs, facilitating communication, accurately receiving and relaying messages and test results, gathering information from callers and relaying it to providers, informing reception of provider’s schedule status, performing patient correspondence, preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment, completing scheduled cleaning requirements, documenting completion of work to comply with infection control and OSHA standards, implementing other infection control procedures, ensuring clinic supplies are adequately stocked and organized, processing and delivering department inventory requests, routinely checking expiration dates, maintaining prescription sample supply cabinet, and ensuring all equipment is properly maintained, records are kept, inventory is current, and equipment is calibrated.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (for LPN position).
  • Current LPN licensure in Minnesota (for LPN position).
  • Current BLS certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross required and maintained. On-line BLS certification is not acceptable.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills including appropriate use of English grammar and spelling.
  • High school diploma or GED (for Medical Assistant position).
  • Graduated of an accredited Medical Assistant program OR Graduate of an accredited EMT program and current EMT License (for Medical Assistant position).

Nice To Haves

  • One year working experience as an LPN is preferred.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification or Registration through AAMA or AMT is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Identify common and recurring nursing needs of the patient.

  • Solve problems appropriately seeking assistance from members of the healthcare team.
  • Effect positive response from patients and other members of the healthcare team through interpersonal skills.
  • Room patients and complete vital signs and other pertinent physical measurements.
  • Administer medication and clinical procedures according to authorized policy and documented according to HealthPartners policy. This may include DISCUS or AIMS assessment.
  • Review charts for the presence of pertinent information relevant to the patients appointment. This may include Prepared Practice work as developed by the team.
  • Provide and document any needed and requested health educational materials to the patient.
  • Handle patient and their records in a private and confidential manner per HealthPartners policy.
  • Seek medical and/or nursing assistance when encountering an acutely ill patient or a patient with a changing condition.
  • Prepare exam rooms and treatment rooms and set up for procedures.
  • Assist provider as needed.
  • Prepare the patient for medical interventions.
  • Prepare charts and records for appointments as indicated by the type of clinic visit according to established practices.
  • Check MSRs for completion and route appropriately.
  • Prepare lab, x-ray and miscellaneous forms as requested.
  • Process drug refills according to clinic protocols.
  • Monitor station logs as assigned.
  • Facilitate timely and accurate flow of communication within the clinic/location.
  • Accurately receive and relay messages and test results to the appropriate person/location in a manner consistent with clinic practices and/or standards.
  • Gather all necessary and appropriate information from a caller and relay information to the appropriate provider for necessary follow-up.
  • Inform reception desk of provider’s schedule status and assist in coordination of urgent and non-urgent provider schedule changes to ensure patient and provider needs are met.
  • Perform patient correspondence when requested and assist patients in completing forms when appropriate.
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment according to procedure and OSHA standards.
  • Complete scheduled cleaning requirements for designated work areas.
  • Document completion of work to comply with infection control and OSHA standards.
  • Implement other infection control procedures as needed and adhere to protective clothing requirements.
  • Ensure clinic supplies are adequately stocked and well organized.
  • Process and deliver department inventory requests in a timely manner.
  • Routinely check expiration dates and remove or replace outdated supplies.
  • Maintain prescription sample supply cabinet as per clinic protocol.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and adequate records are kept.
  • Ensure inventory of instruments and equipment is current.
  • Ensure instruments and equipment are calibrated as needed and maintained in proper working order.
