Job Duties: Licensed Practical Nurse who provides primary nursing support to the physician and patient to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient's condition. Provides patient education and promotes an understanding of the condition and adherence with the treatment plan. The Clinic Nurse, functioning in the spirit of team work, is accountable for the delivery of care utilizing skills learned in both the clinic and didactic arena. Assists surgeon with procedure related to the care of the patient during surgical intervention. Assists other team members on the unit. Candidates must hold a Pennsylvania Licensed Practical Nurse licensure. This role is full-time, 40 hours weekly; Days. A minimum of 3 years LPN work experience is required. Provides nursing care and assists physician as need arises. Practices aseptic technique while preparing for surgery including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping and setting up instrument table. Identifies correct surgical site with the circulating registered nurse and surgeon before operative procedure. Maintains an accurate account of supplies including sponges, needles and instruments. Prepares, identifies and verifies all specimens obtained during the surgical procedure. Disposes of linens, needle and sharps in appropriate containers. Orients new personnel to all aspects of their role. Documents ongoing patient communication with physician Provides patient education, as directed by the physician, to promote the patient's understanding of medical condition and adherence with treatment instructions. Emphasizes wellness to patients and teaches accordingly. Maintains appropriate par levels of all inventory. Routinely inspects and observes condition and operation of equipment to ensure proper operation and identify the need for preventive and corrective maintenance per guideline. Maintains exam and treatment rooms. Acts as first assistant to doctor during surgical procedures. Performs visual field testing. Performs fundus photography. Performs fluorescein angiography (certified). Schedules surgical procedures. Coverage to outreach sites may be necessary. Position Details: Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
