Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited LPN Program
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• BCLS Required
• LPN License for the State of Tennessee.

Responsibilities

• Perform surgical scrub, gowning/gloving, and maintain a sterile field throughout procedures.
• Anticipate surgeon and procedural needs; select, assemble, and pass instruments, sutures, implants, and supplies accurately and efficiently.
• Conduct initial, intraoperative, and closing counts (sponges, sharps, instruments) with the circulating RN per policy; promptly escalate and assist in discrepancy resolution.
• Review preference cards; verify availability and functionality of instruments, equipment, and specialty devices prior to incision.
• Assist with room turnover, decontamination of instruments, and safe transport to Central Sterile Processing (CSP).
• Collaborate with CSP to ensure correct set composition, sterility assurance, and readiness for upcoming cases.
• Support patient safety initiatives: time-out, fire risk assessment, surgical site verification, and specimen handling/labeling.
• Operate and troubleshoot basic OR equipment within scope (e.g., suction, electrosurgical units, laparoscopic towers) and escalate complex issues.
• Adhere to infection prevention standards, PPE use, and environmental cleaning practices.
