About The Position

This position is for an LPN I in an MD office, specifically within an Immediate Care setting. The LPN will provide direct support to healthcare providers by assisting with patient rooming, documenting vital signs and symptoms, and completing medical history forms. A significant part of the role involves setting up for and assisting with various medical procedures, including dressing changes, catheterizations, suture/staple removal, cast application, breathing treatments, EKGs, and administering certain tests and injections as directed by the provider. The LPN I also serves as a clinical resource for Certified Medical Assistants, participates in performance improvement, acts as an electronic medical record expert, and assists with onboarding and student clinical education. Administrative duties include scheduling tests and appointments, managing EMR entries, and performing prior authorizations. The role also involves phone triage for patient inquiries, test results, and medication refills, as well as handling walk-in patient duties. The LPN I is expected to function as a resource for visitors, providers, and staff, and to uphold the mission and values of Johnson Memorial Health. Johnson Memorial Health is a nationally-recognized network of physicians, services and healthcare resources based in Johnson County, Indiana, with its hospital located in Franklin, Indiana.

Requirements

  • Current Indiana LPN licensure
  • CPR certification

Responsibilities

  • Assists provider by rooming patient, documenting signs/symptoms, obtaining blood pressure, weight, height and temperature as pertinent
  • Completes medical history forms
  • Will generally be assigned to a high-volume provider
  • Performs set-up for procedures and assists provider with procedures, which may include performing dressing changes, ear washes, catheterizations, removing sutures and staples, removing castings, breathing treatments, assisting with cast application and DME fittings, EKG's, urinalyses, strep, flu, pregnancy tests, and some injections as directed by the provider and dependent upon the providers' specialty
  • Acts as a clinical resource for Certified Medical Assistants
  • Actively participates in departmental performance improvement activities or special projects
  • Serves as the electronic medical record super-user or expert within practice
  • Assist with new Certified Medical Assistant orientation and onboarding
  • Assist with Medical Assistant student clinical education as requested
  • Assist with supply ordering as directed by Practice Administrator
  • Schedules tests, radiology exams and appointments with specialists as requested by the provider and/or patients
  • Enters all information pertaining to check-in/check-out as necessary in an appropriate manner in the EMR
  • Performs prior authorizations as required
  • Notifies office referral specialist when insurance referral is required
  • Assists provider with office exams, obtaining height, weight, BMI and other pertinent information as required
  • May administer immunizations (in Family Physicians, Women's Care, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics)
  • Updates immunization records and records VFC immunizations in VFC log
  • Performs phone triage when scheduled, including fielding patient medical questions, test results, medication refills, and call-backs to patients as directed by provider or requested by patient
  • Faxes/calls/transmits prescription refills as directed by provider
  • Performs walk-in patient duties as scheduled, which may include: triage, injections, blood pressures, urinalyses, medication sample requests, collecting history and other information from the patients to be relayed to the provider for direction
  • Functions as a resource to visitors, providers and staff; greets everyone promptly and courteously
  • Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of JMH
  • Performs additional duties not addressed here as assigned by the Practice Administrator, practice site provider and/or the JMH Vice President of Physician Practices
  • Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and JMH policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions
