Lower School Summer Sports Coach
About The Position
We are in search of Sports Coaches for our Lower School Summer Camp Program! (Rate is dependent upon sessions worked, subject to change due to enrollment changes) About our Summer Program Summer programs at Harker include a wide variety of academic and recreational offerings. We offer an academically focused K - 5 Summer Camp; the Summer Institute for Middle and High School-aged students; and our English Language Institute for international students. Click here to learn more about our Summer Program: http://www.harker.org/summer Position Summary Provide a positive environment for students to learn and develop athletic skills. Plan, prepare and execute an organized and engaging daily set of lessons, drills and games for the week. Work with assistant coaches and communicate with parents as needed. Always maintain the physical and emotional safety of the campers. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
Requirements
- Proven experience/education in a particular sports area
- Experience coaching/teaching children in the particular sport
- Highly qualified motivator and communicator
- Must be 18 years of age and have completed one year of college.
- Hold current certification in both first aid and CPR.
- Must have prior experience working with children.
- Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels), and provide necessary direction and instruction to campers.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the position.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid and emergency responses.
- Cognitive and communication abilities to plan and conduct the activity to achieve camper development objectives.
Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct activities that promote camper self-esteem and encourage camper success.
- Provide opportunities for each camper to meet the established goals of the camp.
- Set a good example for campers and others including, punctuality, dress, language and behavior.
- Plan and instruct age and skill appropriate activities in various areas, for group and special interest activities.
- Maintain the equipment used in their activities and assure its safe storage.
- Assist in the setup of camp before opening day and in the breakdown of camp on closing day.
- Plan for the safe operation of the camp and the safety of all participants
- Work independently, with support of program directors to meet the established goals of the class
- Maintain equipment and facilities related to individual sport
- Supervise in scheduled areas as needed throughout the day.
- Communicate and train campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures.
- Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
- Respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid and emergency responses.
- Plan and conduct the activity to achieve camper development objectives.
- Safely supervise and manage students while at play.
