About The Position

The Hamlin School seeks teachers who will support and implement the school’s mission and Creed. We are a school where there is a clear commitment to passionate engagement with both the art and science of teaching. Hamlin teachers are caring, compassionate, collaborative, and are dedicated to the education of girls and to the integration of current essential capacities into lesson design. The role of an Associate teacher is a collaborative one. While the Head Teacher shoulders primary responsibility for a class, both teachers are expected to plan together to deliver whole-group and small-group instruction across content areas. The Associate teacher participates actively in teaching and assessment, attends Student Support Services meetings, supports parent- teacher conferences and report-writing, and substitutes for their teaching partner when absent.

Requirements

  • Clear the Department of Justice background screening (Livescan)
  • Authorized to work in the United States (I-9)
  • Provide health (TB) clearance (an update is expected every four years)
  • Ability to lift and carry packages and equipment up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and perform physical tasks throughout the day.
  • Demonstrate normal depth perception
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone
  • See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without auditory aides

Responsibilities

  • Teach all Lower School science classes
  • Plan daily lessons and collaborate joyfully and respectfully with Associate Science Teacher and head teachers to design engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences for students
  • Communicate and partner effectively with parents and grade-level colleagues to provide information about student learning and social-emotional well-being
  • Maintain student records to support parent-teacher conferences and progress reports.
  • Provide daily instruction in science, differentiating to meet the needs of all learners
  • Connect science learning to life outside of the classroom (i.e. field trips, outdoor education)
  • Implement K-4 science curriculum according to Next Generation Science Standards
  • Teach with an understanding of the cognitive and social-emotional development of K-4 girls
  • Communicate and collaborate with other faculty and staff regarding each girl
  • Assess student progress using a variety of methods
  • Communicate with parents about the program and student progress
  • Attend grade level meetings for collaborative discussion and sharing of student concerns
  • Identify materials, resources, and technology needs for program
  • Include use of appropriate technology tools and resources for instruction
  • Create and update curriculum updates for families
  • Participate actively in division meetings, admissions events, and other school gatherings
  • Pursue relevant opportunities for professional growth and development
  • Supervise students in other roles such as recess, lunch, special school days, etc.
  • Chaperone grade level outdoor education trips as needed
