Isidore Newman School seeks a full-time long-term substitute for French in our Lower School World Languages Department for the time frame of January 20-May 22, 2016. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience with a wide range of age-groups (pre-k through 5th grade) with near-native fluency in French. Prior teaching or summer camp experience within the independent school world is also a plus. The ability to forge relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries with students of all ages is critical for all members of the Newman faculty and staff. In this particular role, demonstrated skill with classroom management as well as the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues will be critical. Substitute teachers are also called upon to step into additional roles as needed, such as assistance with snack and mealtimes or carpool. Qualified applicants are fluent French speakers who hold a degree in French or a related field. Expertise in teaching beginner to advanced levels of French through a communicative approach based on target-language use is integral to this role. Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in instruction and curriculum design at the primary level Practical knowledge of how to work with a wide range of different learners in elementary grades.
