Lower and Middle School Associate Librarian Full time Beginning late August, 2026 Position: Lower and Middle School Associate Librarian Reports to : Head of Lower School FLSA: Exempt, full-time Salary Range: $60,000 annually We are seeking an Associate Librarian to work in the Lower/Middle School library who enjoys working with children to join our active, enthusiastic team of librarians for a 2-year appointment, beginning late August 2026, with the ability to apply for a third year. The ideal candidate will have a facility with technology, knowledge of information literacy, enthusiasm for children’s literature, and a passion for working with children in a school library setting.

Requirements

  • Master of Library and Information Science student or recent graduate
  • Experience working with children
  • Passion for children’s and young adult literature
  • Aptitude with technology

Responsibilities

  • Class Assistance Assist with 18 weekly pre-kindergarten to fourth-grade library classes. Assistance includes: Check out/in of library materials Preparation of materials for instruction Reading aloud Classroom management
  • Curriculum Planning Prepare curricular units under the supervision of the LS Librarian and Head of the Mentoring Program: Write lesson plans Prepare class materials Collection development for unit Teach classes Formal evaluation of these units is done by the school administration and the LS Librarian
  • Student and Library Supervision Assist with library supervision of Middle School students after school Roof/lunch duties for LS Help to maintain an attractive and orderly library
  • Readers Advisory Knowledge of and enthusiasm for reading and recommending books for young readers Prepare displays, bulletin boards, and other promotional materials Assist students and parents during the annual Book Fair
  • Administrative & Clerical Support: Processing & Ordering Process and help catalog library materials for the collection Maintain periodical collection Maintain inventory of office and book processing supplies
  • Collection and Catalog Maintenance Assist in keeping the online catalog current and discard materials as directed Repair books and other materials Assist in annual inventory and weeding of collection Manage new patron import each fall and maintain patron records throughout the school year Shelve books and periodicals
  • Technology Support Assist students and faculty with use of laptops and printers Troubleshoot technology problems, with help of technology office Working knowledge of Google Drive Working knowledge of Internet search techniques
  • Faculty/Staff Activities Participate in library department meetings Participate in faculty and staff development days Participate in grade-level team meetings and cross-curricular planning
