About The Position

The Lourie Center for Children's Social & Emotional Wellness is a private, non-profit agency with a mission to improve the social and emotional health of young children and their families through prevention, early intervention, education, research and training. As an intern, you will: Under clinical supervision, participate in diagnostic evaluations of children and their families (if placed in clinic) Under clinical supervision, write evaluation and treatment plans (if placed in clinic) Under clinical supervision, provide individual, group, and/or family therapy to clients and their families (if placed in clinic) Under clinical supervision, provide mileau therapeutic services for children in the classroom (if placed in the therapeutic nursery program) Under testing supervision, complete psychological assessments of children (if psychology student) Participate in an interdisciplinary treatment team to propose and develop strategies and interventions that would promote excellent therapeutic outcomes Collaborate with other professionals working with the client, such as referral sources and community partners such as child welfare services, school, daycares, and pediatricians to ensure coordinated service delivery. Participate in a weekly student seminar to discuss the integration of theory into clinical practice. Participate in case conferences, clinical trainings, and staff meetings. Complete clinical documentation within expected timeframes to maintain compliance with COMAR, Joint Commission, and/or Office of Childcare requirements.

Requirements

  • Second-year or advanced level social work, counseling, and expressive arts interns.
  • Third and fourth year (pre-internship) psychology externs.
  • Other mental health intern disciplines are welcome to apply.
  • Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Ability to commit to at least 16 hours per week, ideally three days per week, including mandatory hours on Wednesday and Thursdays from September through May (or as scheduled by your academic program), required.
