About The Position

The Lourie Center Head Start, Adventist HealthCare seeks to hire an experienced Head Start Teacher I, who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing. The Lourie Center Head Start (LCHS) program is a federally funded, community-based program for low-income families as well as pregnant women with children from birth to five years old. The program serves children with disabilities, children in foster care and families that are homeless. As a Head Start Teacher I you will:

Requirements

  • Child Development Associate certification: Associate of Art in Child Development or related field required
  • A minimum of 2 years working directly with children in an approved setting.
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English in order to communicate effectively - strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Create and establish a safe, healthy learning environment that provides physical and emotional safety
  • Provide emotional support through establishing a positive climate, being aware of and responsive to children, and encouraging child expression and autonomy
  • Analyze assessment data derived from ongoing observations in Teaching Strategies GOLD to guide curriculum, transition, and individual/group plan decisions
  • Implement the assigned curriculum using a variety of modalities and materials to provide developmentally appropriate instructional support
  • Maintain accurate written records, including assessments, special education documentation, screening instruments, anecdotal notes, and documents for transition to public school and parent/teacher and home visits; complies with deadlines set by supervisor
  • Use strategies for behavior management, such as clear behavior expectations, being proactive and redirecting misbehavior
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled trainings such as community of practices, engage in coaching cycles with assigned coach, reflective supervision and in collaboration with the manager develop PDP for own professional development.
