About The Position

Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley is an organization driven by empowerment and full inclusion, one of the largest employers in the region with a mission to empower those with disadvantages and disabilities to improve their quality of life. The organization employs over 600 associates in its retail stores alone and offers over 40 programs and services to the community. They offer part-time and full-time positions with a variety of schedules and hours. The Loss Prevention Specialist works to protect Agency assets and minimizes liabilities and losses through analytics and investigations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ retail, risk management or case management experience.
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to GESMV’s liability insurance provider.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to pass random drug screenings.
  • Willingness and ability to develop working knowledge of all current systems in support of the position and Agency in goals and initiatives.
  • Exhibit technical competency and ability to learn new systems and process quickly; ability to quickly learn and become efficient in all Case Management Systems, Salesforce, Advisor Pro, VR, Kronos, Paycor, Think LP, and others.
  • Microsoft Office with intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate well with a broad spectrum of people, including consumers, referral sources, vendors, and all levels of staff.
  • Must be a highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated individual able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, customers, funders, or regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to follow through with projects and assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Mature judgement and ability to handle sensitive situations and confidential information with professionalism.
  • Ability to be self-directed, able to take initiative and exercise independent judgement.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Public Administration or related field and (2) two years’ experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides training and direction to Store Management teams and employees on programs designed to protect company assets from loss due to internal and external misappropriation, fraud, or theft.
  • Effectively enforce and adhere to the Agency Shopping Policy and apprehension guidelines, including surveillance and apprehension of external theft/shoplifting.
  • Conducts interviews as required to resolve investigations.
  • Creates and maintains records of investigations, apprehensions, interviews, witnesses, evidence, and disposition of recovered merchandise.
  • Evaluates company facilities utilizing the Asset Protection audit, provides on-site analyses of potential risks, and develops appropriate and effective countermeasures to reduce the potential for loss and shrinkage.
  • Assists Loss Prevention Manager in implementing individual and departmental goals; provides required reports and data.
  • Perform duties in a professional, timely, discreet, and confidential manner.
  • Uses effective and professional written communication to prepare accurate and timely investigative reports, email communications, memoranda and other required forms, spreadsheets and reports.
  • Actively monitors and follows up on suspicious cash variances, cash handling violations, and point of sale exception-based reporting data.
  • Conducts alarm tests and loss prevention system checks.
  • Prepares monthly statistical reports for review.
  • Operates and monitors video surveillance systems to audit, investigate and review theft and other questionable incidents; downloads and saves video evidence.
  • Maintains professional liaison with law enforcement and other governmental agencies and represents the Company as a witness in court and administrative hearings.
  • Ensures risk management standards via regular series of audits, follow-up, education, training, and reports.
  • Effectively enforces and adheres to the Agency Shopping Policy and apprehension guidelines.
  • Comply with all Agency policies, procedures and safety standards throughout work areas and maintain same to meet CARF, HIPAA, Department of Labor and other regulatory standards.
  • Special projects or duties as may be assigned.
