About The Position

Under the direction of the Alternative Programs supervisor/ designee, plans and implements a program for secondary school students to 1) provide differentiated instruction 2) remediate academic deficiencies 3) improve behavior and social skills, 4) improve attendance, and 5) support students in meeting exit criteria to make them eligible to return to a comprehensive school program. Physical Demands: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements: Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Requirements

Thorough knowledge of MCPS curriculum and a broad repertoire of effective instructional strategies.
A keen understanding of human behavior.
Skills in motivating reluctant learners and building school connectedness.
Expertise in differentiated instruction and teaching basic skills.
Skill in behavioral management strategies and social skills instruction.
Ability to work collaboratively.
Excellent communication and human relations skills.
Ability to work effectively with the supervisor, site coordinator, leadership team members, colleagues, and parents.
Master^s degree or equivalent with special interest in teaching at-risk adolescents.
Three years outstanding teacher experience.
Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
Meet Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for a core high school subject: English, math, science, social studies or special education.
