About The Position

PVPA has an opportunity for a Long-Term Substitute Algebra II & Pre-Calculus starting immediately for remainder of the 2025-2026 school year. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who collaborates effectively with colleagues and understands the varied needs of math students. The ideal candidate will be a reflective practitioner who has strong classroom management skills, is interested in integrating the arts into the curriculum, teaching with a social justice lens, collaborating with students and colleagues, and has experience in implementing restorative practices in the classroom. Our goal is to strengthen the comprehensive math program while supporting and challenging students to develop confidence in upper-level math courses. Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, you will be responsible for:

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will minimally hold a BA degree
  • Be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting)
  • Be computer literate

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of experience teaching Algebra II and Pre-Calculus in a public or private school.
  • Eligible for "Highly Qualified" teacher status (MA Certified or able to pass Communication & Literacy and MTEL exam within 1 year).
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement
  • Experience with high school students
  • Knowledge of discipline curriculum standards
  • Interest or experience in the arts

Responsibilities

  • Teaching five classes including Algebra II and Pre-Calculus
  • Use an anti-racist, anti-oppression framework to prepare curricula and instructional materials based on learning objectives.
  • Creating a classroom atmosphere that is respectful and adheres to class norms
  • Plan curricula and prepare course expectations and materials.
  • Supervise students during non-class time (ex: lunch) as required.
  • Assess student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via the PowerSchool online grading system.
  • Apply PVPA standards based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement.
  • Attend and participate in regular collaborative team meetings with faculty and school-wide professional development activities
  • Attend and participate in meetings with students and/or parents as scheduled, including open house and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Coordinate with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners
  • Other duties as required.
