About The Position

This employee is responsible for coordinating transportation of designated materials via box truck or other assigned county vehicles to assist the Office of Supply Chain Management within metropolitan Chicago, Illinois with hauling of supplies, equipment, recyclables, and other materials. The position is intended for an experienced Logistics Transport Specialist who possesses a current Illinois Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) certificate.
  • Excellent work attendance history.
  • Minimum of three (3) years previous experience in warehousing, recycling, or logistics.
  • Experience handling electric pallet jack and other equipment used for hauling and warehouse operations.
  • Current and valid Illinois Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and be compliant with all DOT regulations.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable truck driving experience in the last 5 years required, with two (2) or less moving violations; driving school and or safety certifications preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities as needed for the position.
  • Ability to work any shift assigned, including days, afternoons, or midnight; must be capable of working holidays and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three (3) years previous experience in directly in supply distribution.
  • Experience using supply distribution scanners and software applications.
  • Freight Driving Experience
  • Illinois CDL Class A, compliant with all DOT regulations for operating a semi-tractor and trailer (53 foot); as well as actual driving semi-tractor driving experience.
  • Previously completed an internship with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to be flexible with shifts when needed, including ability to work weekends, afternoons, and evenings.
  • Coordinate dedicated routes with numerous stops per day delivering products to customers.
  • Enforce daily delivery and pick-up schedule.
  • Ensure that supply orders, recycling supplies or other designated items to be placed on assigned county vehicles are checked to confirm items are part of the day’s schedule.
  • Ensure assigned county vehicles are properly loaded on to county vehicles in a manner that is safe and minimizes damage to items and vehicles.
  • Coordinate delivery along authorized delivery routes, including delivery of all supply orders, recycling supplies or other designated items assigned for delivery or pick-up on the Daily Delivery and Pick-Up Schedule; or where a delivery or pick-up cannot be made as scheduled, must notify Lead Logistics Specialist immediately for further directions.
  • Ensure that vehicle operators account for the following leaving and returning with assigned vehicle: dock plate, pallet jack, and stabilizer poles or other equipment necessary for the delivery or pick-up; and perform an interior and exterior vehicle inspection.
  • Ensure compliance with safety & DOT Regulations, continuous truck training and customer service.
  • Comply with all Sheriff’s Orders concerning county vehicle operation.
  • Comply with Sheriff’s Support Services procedures.
  • Report to Lead Logistics Specialist all vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles before and after route.
  • Able to work and concentrate in a fast-paced open office environment that can be noisy.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
