About The Position

The Logistics Supervisor manages the local shipping, receiving, and warehouse personnel for Gleason operations and has regular interactions with internal and external stakeholders to execute daily operational requirements. The Logistics Supervisor assists in the development of logistics strategies, including the standardization of policies, procedures, processes, metrics, and business practices within Gleason. This role requires effective communication and interacts with local management, supply chain, service, sales, and contract management to support movement of equipment and materials in a timely and cost-effective manner. The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for business process performance monitoring including Key Process Indicator (“KPI”) definition, maintenance, and continuous improvement. This role requires awareness of current events relating to parcel and project cargo logistics industry trends, changes, and regulations which affect Gleason’s operations in an effort to adapt processes and strategies as-necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics Management or other relevant field
  • Minimum of 3 years direct control of logistics organization including domestic and international parcel and freight movements
  • Experience with traffic scheduling, shipping, cargo packaging and management
  • Demonstrated competency in warehouse performance management including cycle counting and inventory quality
  • Experience with an ERP/Inventory Control system (SAP is a plus)
  • Familiarity with Duty Draw back
  • Understanding of INCO terms
  • A proven track record of building and developing a strong warehousing and transportation organization and aligning internal resources with external customer expectations
  • Must possess strong leadership and employee relations skills with a focus on engagement.
  • Proven success in a fast-paced environment, with ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Critical thinking, decision making, complex problem solving, project management, ability to lead, motivate and develop skills among colleagues.
  • Must be able to analyze and present fact-based management reporting with recommendations.

  • Demonstrated expertise in all transportation modes (air, ocean, parcel, LTL, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in implementation of electronic warehouse tracking systems is a plus (i.e. RF or barcode technology)
  • Experience with an ERP/Inventory Control system (SAP is a plus)

Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of shipping & receiving clerks, material handlers, and warehouse personnel to ensure fulfillment and warehousing activities are completed in an efficient and timely manner
  • Responsible for the hiring, development, and retention of staff in support of continuous improvement, succession planning, and future business growth
  • Provides training and mentorship to staff on an as-required, as needed basis
  • Ensure and facilitate open lines of communication with internal departments and staff
  • Ensure all safety, regulatory, and compliance measures are met within corporate and statutory guidelines
  • Ensure that all processes are properly mapped, documented, and audited
  • Works hands-on to accomplish daily shipping and fulfillment requirements in support of internal and external stakeholders
  • Communicate with internal customers on inventory and fulfillment issues
  • Responsible for inbound/outbound freight and small parcel activity and continued improvements
  • In depth knowledge of state, federal, and international shipping requirements including proper road permits and classifications
  • Work with the Materials Manager and Trade Compliance Analyst to ensure most effective means of transportation is used for incoming and outgoing shipments of product
  • Participate in negotiations and contract management of freight-based spending in conjunction with the Materials Manager and Commodity Manager
  • Ensure compliance to Gleason’s routing guide for inbound and outbound freight.
  • Work directly with UPS, FedEx, and other common carriers on shipment issues
  • Coordinate with insurance providers and internal management to execute root cause/corrective action activities for freight damage.
  • Responsible for all material storage and retrieval within the warehouse
  • Responsible for daily cycle counts and reconciliation
  • Recommend and implement process improvements and cost reduction opportunities via new warehousing processes and methods or technologies (i.e. RF or barcode scanning technology, etc.)
  • Produce regular reports and statistics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Monitor and report supplier performance for all freight service providers.
  • Monitor and report on industry trends affecting transportation. Recommend alternatives, as necessary.
