About The Position

The Logistics Specialist is responsible and accountable for the effective management of international, cross-border and domestic shipments including but not limited to tendering, tracking, processing of shipments and dispatching Barentz resources.  The Logistics Specialist is responsible for ensuring timely delivery to customers and maintain necessary inventory levels. In addition, this role focuses on strengthening corporate customer relationships by facilitating the achievement of divisional sales targets by providing clear visibility throughout the supply chain.

Requirements

  • Degree/Diploma in Business or related field/demonstrated experience required.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the transportation industry required
  • Customs knowledge required.
  • Strong organization skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Highly analytical and meticulous and possess strong critical thinking skills
  • Initiative-taking, high energy, and engaging level of enthusiasm and positive outlook.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt communication style to the audience as needed
  • Software knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years’ experience with international shipping preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery Management – Communication with colleagues to facilitate delivery of accurate orders.
  • Directs product transportation and delivery to ensure achievement of cost, productivity, accuracy, and timeliness objectives are met.
  • Resolves problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, imports and exports, or customer issues.
  • Negotiates transportation rates and services. (Where applicable, this may include truck, rail, intermodal, barge for import and export as well river services).
  • Analyzes all aspects of transportation logistics to determine the most cost effective and efficient means of transporting products or supplies.
  • Communicates freight transportation information to colleagues using all technology and systems available to improve efficiency, speed, and/or quality of transportation services.
  • Monitors and ensures transportation safety and compliance where Barentz is the accountable party.
  • Manages and updates all carrier files with contact info, updated insurance, and authority information to maintain compliance with the applicable government agencies (i.e., Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
  • Supports management with truck related accident and/or safety investigations, ensuring adequate follow-up and documentation between trucking company and insurance company.
  • Creates, verifies, and maintains compliance documents with all US Customs requirements for import and export of shipments for domestic and international regulations, including international security filing, import customs clearance, and import duty costs as well as all export requirements needed on outbound shipments.
  • Responsible for generating freight revenue on all customer shipments.
  • Responsible for attending to drivers, including local site processes and procedures (i.e servicing the scale window, carrier service kiosks/windows, etc.)
  • Prioritizes workload and effectively uses tracking tools to ensure the timely delivery of purchase orders and customer orders.
  • Updates orders in the ERP System.
  • Ensures on-time delivery, via established processes and use of available technology and data
  • Coordinates any warehouse and intercompany transfers where applicable.
  • Uses proper protocols to address for non-conformance issue (NCRs).
  • Uses critical thinking skills and knowledge of the logistics function to provide updates to necessary departments.
  • Adheres to all guidelines and requirements for divisional products (guidelines to ensure correct documentation and labeling), including, HMIS, TDG, HAZMAT, SDS, certificates of analysis, product specification sheets, etc.) where applicable
  • Accountable for obtaining and checking required paperwork (Original Bill of Lading, Packing List, Standard Invoice, Certificate of Origin, CCI, etc.).
  • Arranges for blind and double- blind shipments where applicable; creates necessary documents such as manual bills of lading and packing slips.
