About The Position

The Materials Specialist 2 is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Locomotive Group’s materials inventory at La Porte, TX, and plays an important role recording locomotive maintenance and repair work (Work Orders) and associated costs, and invoicing customers. This individual procures materials for capital improvements at La Porte and contract shops. Trains, guides, and oversees the work of the Materials Specialist 1.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 3 years materials management experience required.
  • Strong computer skills required, including proficiency with or the ability to become proficient with, the following:
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • SAP
  • E-maintenance
  • Infopath
  • Ability to operate a forklift required.
  • Ability and willingness to meet all customer suitability requirements.
  • Must be sensitive to customer demands and be flexible in work hours.
  • Ability to sit and operate a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 90 pounds.
  • Must be able to stoop, climb ladders and safely perform work tasks.
  • Must work in all types of weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of locomotives and locomotive parts preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Procures materials for capital improvements at La Porte and contract shops.
  • Accepts or rejects shipments; processes write offs and arranges for refunds for rejected materials; receives inventory into on-line inventory system (SAP).
  • Performs, and oversees Materials Specialist 1 in performing, periodic physical inventory counts and reconciles to General Ledger; research variances.
  • Fields questions from Accounts Payable Department on discrepancies between Purchase Orders and vendor invoices.
  • Maintains Purchase Orders and packing slips for research/audits.
  • Creates new Material Master Records in SAP.
  • Creates/Updates Work Orders in SAP (requires background knowledge of work being performed on locomotives in Houston area, who are the responsible crews, and the status of daily Work Orders for all inspections and repairs).
  • Generates reports to track the status of Work Orders.
  • Maintains notification system of upcoming dates for scheduled inspections per locomotive.
  • To ensure correct billing, maintains a table of customer responsibilities by reading and interpreting lease contracts.
  • In conjunction with the Locomotive Technicians, Administrative Assistant, and Sr. Manager, updates Work Orders to indicate customer liabilities as per lease requirements (following the above-referenced table).
  • Fields inquiry calls from customers regarding liability invoices.
  • Assists in customer collections efforts.
  • Provides information to update Customer Master Records in SAP.
