About The Position

Working under minimal supervision, performs all activities associated with the Campus Key Management Program. This includes installation, repair, adjustment, and replacement of locks and other door closures/devices/equipment. Additionally, this position is responsible for the general and preventative maintenance on all locks, door hardware, and door closures, as well as assisting with the upkeep of the key control system, keying hierarchy, and key issuance and recovery. This position is not eligible for sponsorship of non-immigrant or immigrant visa status through Wake Forest University. All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • High school diploma plus specialized locksmith training and three to five years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of lock installation, problem solving, repair, recombination, and adjustments of locks, including the duplication and making of keys.
  • Carpentry experience pertaining to the installation of door hardware, door closure installation, and repair.
  • Advanced knowledge of master keying systems.
  • Excellent customer service skills, strong interpersonal skills, and to practice effective verbal and written communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to read, understand, and abide by all verbal and written instructions as pertains to performing job duties, policies, and job-related responsibilities/procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English with contractors, technicians, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Computer skills and competency in relevant applications, including key tracking software, work order systems, and general office applications.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record; must be insurable.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools, including lock picking and key-cutting hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Install, modify, and repair all locking systems and components.
  • Install, modify, adjust, and repair doors, door hardware, and door closure systems components.
  • Provide general hardware services, such as lock recores, key duplication and cutting, and lock picking.
  • Responsible for ongoing preventative maintenance of all locking systems and related hardware.
  • Documents and records all updates and verification procedures with a high level of attention to detail in order to maintain key system integrity.
  • Assists with hierarchy planning of the key systems, and follows policy documents and other steps to maintain the security and integrity of the lock systems at all times.
  • Assists the Manager with solicitation, evaluation, and follow-up of customer feedback regarding Lockshop operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide excellent service to internal and external department customers.
  • Reports all matters of safety to the appropriate Supervisor and to the Safety Director if necessary.
  • Follows all University and departmental policies and procedures.
  • This position may be designated as essential personnel to support business continuity during campus emergencies, disasters, or other special needs as directed by management. Essential personnel may be recalled outside their normal schedule.
