As an NBCUniversal Academic Year intern, you will work on real projects, be part of a collaborative culture, and receive support to grow across two full semesters. The Internship Program focuses on impact, offering the chance to contribute to meaningful work while building valuable skills. NBCUniversal Local is the company's local media division, serving English and Spanish-speakers and bilingual audiences in 31 U.S. markets and Puerto Rico with local sports, news, weather, consumer and investigative reporting, and lifestyle entertainment across various platforms. It comprises the NBC Owned Television Stations, the NBC Sports Regional Networks, and the Telemundo Station Group, working together to keep local audiences informed anytime and anywhere.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027)
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits)
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027
  • Must be willing to work in Needham, MA
  • Submit a one-page resume that outlines your work experience, accomplishments, and your graduation month and year
  • Submit a cover letter that highlights your passion for NBCUniversal and your top areas of interest
  • Upload a transcript (unofficial transcripts are fine) that confirms your status as an actively enrolled student in a degree-granting program
  • Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism or Broadcast Journalism, Digital/New Media Studies, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Production, English, Social Media, or Research
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred (written and verbal)
  • Commitment to building an inclusive work environment
  • Ability to multitask and highly organized
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Previous internship experience within a corporate setting
  • Experience with Social Media Platforms, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, and SEO tools such as Google Trends

Responsibilities

  • Support station marketing strategies and initiatives across various digital platforms, including social media and YouTube (Creative Services/Social Media)
  • Perform story selection and editing of social videos for NBC10 accounts (Creative Services/Social Media)
  • Collaborate with the Programming Department on content for The Hub Today and community initiatives (Creative Services/Social Media)
  • Create daily YouTube thumbnails (Creative Services/Social Media)
  • Attend on-site events to capture photos and videos for social media (Creative Services/Social Media)
  • Brainstorm creative ideas to engage followers and elevate marketing messages across all platforms (Creative Services/Social Media)
  • Create and adapt content for digital platforms (Digital)
  • Pitch, report, and write news and feature stories (Digital)
  • Produce and edit video pieces for social media in collaboration with digital staff and on-air reporters (Digital)
  • Transform linear broadcasts into short-form content (Digital)
  • Identify opportunities for interactive engagement and data visualization (Digital)
  • Cut video for use across websites, apps, and social channels (Digital)
  • Shadow various newsroom professionals (Digital)
  • Assist with social media management (Digital)
  • Gain hands-on experience in the editorial process, including planning, researching, newsgathering, writing, and editing (NBC 10 and Telemundo Boston News)
  • Learn both editorial and technical aspects of news production (NBC 10 and Telemundo Boston News)
  • Shadow producers and assignment editors (NBC 10 and Telemundo Boston News)
  • Create individual news stories for demo reels and online platforms (NBC 10 and Telemundo Boston News)
  • Participate in studio anchor sessions (NBC 10 and Telemundo Boston News)
  • Assist with viewer calls and tips (NBC 10 and Telemundo Boston News)
  • Contribute to special projects (NBC 10 and Telemundo Boston News)
  • Support The Hub Today, a daily lifestyle program (Programming)
  • Learn to write on-air scripts (Programming)
