About The Position

The Loan Underwriting Manager serves the Consumer and Mortgage Underwriting teams as a resource for reviewing and underwriting mortgage and consumer loan application requests. Lending authority is assigned based on experience level and proven ability to safeguard credit union assets by diligently adhering to corporate, investor and regulatory requirements when making underwriting decisions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Two years of banking or financial industry experience.
  • Two years’ experience in a leadership role that includes managing a Team.
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Internet.
  • General typing and 10-key calculator skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively serve all levels of the organization as well as members of the Credit Union.
  • Conscientious, attention to detail, performs accurate work with respect for regulations and standards.
  • Ability to work at a steady, even pace, and has a high aptitude for work that is mechanical or technical in nature.
  • Dependable, consistent in handling structured routines.
  • Possess a working knowledge of all relevant Banking Rules and Regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years’ experience in mortgage and consumer underwriting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists and oversees the underwriting function for the credit union’s consumer and mortgage lending channels and assists the Chief Credit Officer with developing, updating and implementing underwriting policies and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of investor and credit union underwriting policies, guidelines, and procedures, as well as an understanding of regulatory compliance for lending.
  • Monitors department performance, including quality control reviews. Provides feedback as needed.
  • Monitors efficiencies and continually looks for ways to improve underwriting processes to provide consistencies within the underwriting teams, when possible.
  • Prepares and/or provides Underwriting and Quality Control related reports to appropriate leaders.
  • Reviews member requests for Mortgage Insurance terminations, Partial Releases and Subordinations.
  • Meets with teams and individual team members on a regular basis to discuss and promote Verve culture, personal growth, as well as providing education and discussion to improve underwriting consistencies and processes.
  • Maintains and updates Underwriting and Lending procedures on the Intranet.
  • Assists the Mortgage and Consumer Sales and Processing teams, as needed, including back up for Lock Desk.
  • Prepares annual HMDA submission to CFPB.
  • Assists with Internal and External audits as well as regulatory exam reviews related to lending compliance.
  • FNMA Technology Manager – maintains and updates users for all FNMA applications.
  • Admin for Mortgage Loan Origination System, including system maintenance and updates.
  • Provides system related education to the Mortgage team as needed or assists in obtaining support directly from vendor.
  • Make recommendations for staff hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, performance appraisals, training and development, and interpretation of company rules and policies for department personnel.
  • Conduct all personnel functions in accordance with applicable statutes (e.g., EEO, OSHA, Fair Labor, etc.).
  • Additional duties as assigned.
