Loads Engineer (External Loads & Flight Sciences)

About The Position

We are seeking a Loads Engineer to lead the definition and development of external flight and ground loads for our light business jet programs. This role focuses on the "Front-End" of structural integrity: defining exactly what forces (aerodynamic, inertial, and mechanical) the aircraft will encounter. You will provide the critical force data that our FEA and Dynamics teams use to verify the airframe.

Requirements

  • Load Derivation: Strong command of flight mechanics and the equations of motion to derive shear, moment, and torque (V-M-T) diagrams.
  • Regulatory Logic: Deep understanding of FAR Part 23/25 Subpart C requirements for limit and ultimate loads.
  • Data Processing: Advanced proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or Excel/VBA to manage and manipulate massive datasets of flight conditions.
  • Tools: Experience with loads-specific software (e.g., ZAERO, ASWING, or proprietary 6-DOF flight dynamics codes).
  • Education: B.S. in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering.
  • Experience: 5+ years in aircraft loads definition.
  • Focus: Strong background in Fluid Dynamics and Flight Mechanics rather than Solid Mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Load Set Generation: Develop comprehensive design load sets for the entire airframe, including wing, fuselage, and empennage, based on flight maneuvers and environmental conditions.
  • Aerodynamic Data Integration: Translate aerodynamic pressure distributions from CFD and Wind Tunnel data into concentrated or distributed loads for structural consumption.
  • Maneuver & Gust Analysis: Perform analytical calculations for symmetric and asymmetric maneuvers, as well as discrete gust and continuous turbulence analysis per regulatory standards.
  • Weight & CG Tracking: Collaborate with the Mass Properties team to incorporate various payload, fuel, and center-of-gravity configurations into the loads environment.
  • Certification Documentation: Author and defend Load Reports for FAA/EASA certification (FAR Part 23/25), ensuring all "Worst-Case" scenarios are identified and documented.
  • Interface Management: Act as the primary technical point of contact between the Aerodynamics team and the Structural Stress/FEA teams.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • A collaborative, engineering-driven, innovative work environment.
  • The opportunity to work on cutting-edge aircraft development and certification programs with a highly skilled team of professionals.
