About The Position

Reporting to the LNG EPC Engineering Supervisor, the Senior/Staff LNG Process Engineer supports the full lifecycle of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility design and delivery. You will shape early process concepts, guide detailed engineering with Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partners, and help bring facilities online through commissioning and start-up (CSU). This role blends deep process design expertise with practical operability and safety focus. You will collaborate with internal teams, licensors, EPC contractors, and clients to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient facilities. Travel averages about 25% and includes on-site support in the U.S. Lower 48 and international locations, especially during CSU and targeted operational support windows.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, related field, or foreign equivalent
  • 7 or more years of process engineering experience.
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 25% of the time on a yearly basis.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 or more years of process engineering experience, including significant LNG experience.
  • Strong process design capability across major project phases (concept selection, FEED, and EPC execution).
  • Experience with gas plant, LNG, and/or ethylene plant design and operations exposure.
  • Proficiency with process simulation tools (such as Aspen HYSYS or similar), process controls concepts, and equipment specification development.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration concepts and liquefaction process considerations.
  • Experience supporting major capital projects and start-up, with strong communication and teamwork skills across contractors, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Analyzes stakeholder needs, global, political, and market trends to understand how they shape the future and impact our business results.
  • Understands how key financial and quantitative indicators impact the business.
  • Drives thoughtful and pragmatic change by encouraging innovative thinking and continuous improvement.
  • Models adaptability by responding resourcefully, flexibly, and positively when faced with new challenges and demands.

Responsibilities

  • Define and document process design premises that align with project objectives, safety expectations, and operating strategy.
  • Advise licensors, EPC contractors, and client teams on process design choices, operability, and commissioning and start-up (CSU) considerations early, when design decisions have the most impact.
  • Participate in layout, constructability, and risk-focused reviews, including early 3D model reviews, to identify issues before they become costly changes.
  • Build and maintain conceptual process simulations (for example, Aspen HYSYS or similar) to validate concepts, develop heat and material balances, and support early equipment sizing.
  • Develop key early deliverables, including: Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) Utility Flow Diagrams (UFDs) Preliminary Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Create and update design templates and standard documentation so early engineering stays consistent and easier to execute in later phases.
  • Own the quality, accuracy, and technical integrity of process design deliverables from Front End Engineering Design (FEED) through EPC execution.
  • Ensure designs meet ConocoPhillips minimum standards and agreed design bases, while supporting EPC teams with clear technical direction and timely decisions.
  • Guide selection and application of critical instrumentation and control concepts to support safe, stable operations and effective start-up.
  • Lead or support rated-case and design-case simulations to confirm equipment and system performance across expected operating conditions.
  • Support structured safety and operability reviews and close out actions, including: Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) P&ID reviews Risk assessments and 3D model reviews
  • Support LNG train walkdowns and cold box inspections to verify field readiness, completeness, and alignment with design intent.
  • Work with EPC teams to confirm practical piping routing, elevations, and equipment placement in the liquefaction area, with focus on maintainability, access, and operability.
  • Develop and verify process equipment specifications to ensure equipment meets performance requirements and integrates correctly with the overall process design.
  • Provide technical site support during commissioning, start-up, and post-startup stabilization, including leadership of issue resolution where needed.
  • Troubleshoot post-startup operating issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions that improve reliability, safety, and performance.
  • Develop and deliver training for engineering and operations teams supporting new facilities, tailored to the design intent and control philosophy.
  • Produce operations and control deliverables such as loop descriptions, control narratives, alarm and trip summaries, and similar documentation needed for safe operation.
  • Run dynamic simulations (when required) to validate control logic, tune critical loops, and confirm start-up and upset response behavior.
  • Create start-up guidance, operator guidelines, and system supervisory operation manuals to support safe, consistent start-up and ongoing operations.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, mental health support, and wellness programs.
  • Competitive base pay, annual performance bonuses, and retirement savings plans.
  • Paid time off, paid parental leave, and family support resources.
  • Access to training, mentoring, and internal career mobility tools.
  • Peer-nominated awards, inclusive culture, and employee resource groups.
