About The Position

Reporting to the LNG Operations & Project Execution Supervisor, the LNG Process Controls Engineer plays a key role in ensuring LNG facilities operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. This role focuses on process controls, operability, commissioning, start-up, and post-startup performance, supporting ConocoPhillips Cascade Process projects from early engineering through live operations. You will work closely with operations, project execution teams, licensors, and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors to translate design intent into stable, controllable, and maintainable facilities. This position is well suited for engineers who have hands-on experience running facilities, supporting commissioning and start-up, and improving performance through optimization and debottlenecking.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Science or Engineering, other related technical field, or foreign equivalent.
  • 7 or more years of experience in process controls engineering within LNG or a related process industry.
  • Experience developing, updating, and finalizing PFDs, UFDs, heat and material balances, and P&IDs.
  • Hands-on experience with process control development, implementation, and operational support.
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel domestically and internationally 25% of the time on a yearly basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or foreign equivalent.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in Texas.
  • Experience with the ConocoPhillips Cascade Process or comparable LNG, ethylene, or cryogenic processing facilities.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, start-up, and live operations on major capital projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of process controls, dynamic behavior of facilities, and interaction between process design and operations.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information through written reports and verbal presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with operations, project teams, and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development and refinement of the project and process design basis, with a strong focus on operability, controllability, and production performance.
  • Advise licensors, EPC contractors, and client teams on process technology operations, control philosophy, and start-up considerations.
  • Review and develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Utility Flow Diagrams (UFDs), and Material Selection Diagrams (MSDs) in close coordination with the Process Design team to ensure designs support stable operation.
  • Actively participate in Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development and reviews, ensuring alignment with control strategies and operational needs.
  • Participate in process safety and risk reviews, including: Hazard Identification Studies (HAZIDs) Process Hazard Analyses and Hazard and Operability Studies (PHA/HAZOP) Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPA) Safety Integrity Level (SIL) reviews Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA)
  • Review process equipment design with an operations and controls lens, including sizing, internals selection, residence time, nozzle sizing, pressure drop allowances, and configuration.
  • Review piping hydraulics and layouts to prevent unstable operation, slugging, and transient conditions, and to ensure acceptable straight-run lengths, mixing distances, and nozzle configurations.
  • Participate in 3D model development and review cycles to confirm accessibility, operability, and maintainability of equipment, valves, and instrumentation.
  • Perform process controls analyses, including control valve sizing, trim selection, and evaluation of control strategies.
  • Support project economic evaluations by identifying operability risks, production impacts, and optimization opportunities.
  • Review equipment specifications, datasheets, and vendor bid packages to confirm alignment with operating and control requirements.
  • Maintain the quality, accuracy, and technical integrity of process deliverables throughout all project phases.
  • Ensure ConocoPhillips minimum standards are applied consistently across process and control design.
  • Update and finalize key engineering deliverables, including PFDs, UFDs, heat and material balances (H&MBs), and P&IDs.
  • Participate in manufactured equipment reviews, module checkouts, and P&ID walkdowns to verify readiness for commissioning.
  • Provide on-site support during commissioning, start-up, and post-startup stabilization.
  • Troubleshoot post-startup operating issues, identify root causes, and support implementation of sustainable solutions.
  • Lead or support revamp and debottlenecking studies aimed at improving capacity, availability, reliability, or resolving recurring operational issues.
