About The Position

UPS is seeking a talented and motivated Corporate Litigation Attorney to join its dynamic global legal team in Atlanta, GA. This position is responsible for directing litigation strategy and guiding complex legal matters from the start of each matter to resolution. The Corporate Litigation Attorney will play a critical role in protecting and defending UPS by strategically evaluating, managing, and mitigating legal risk across a diverse portfolio of litigation matters, while ensuring consistency in the company’s legal and business positions. This role guides and supports fact‑finding, offers strategic legal guidance, and works closely with numerous business units to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and regulations. The attorney manages outside counsel, controls legal expenses, and may oversee legal support staff.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active law license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 6+ years of experience at a law firm and/or in-house managing litigation matters in federal and state courts.
  • Demonstrated experience managing outside counsel and controlling litigation budgets.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues to non-legal audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and strong professional presence.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with regulatory agencies or administrative proceedings.
  • Experience with complex commercial and/or employment litigation, including taking and defending depositions, handling mediations, and preparing for and arguing dispositive motions.
  • Familiarity with compliance programs, data privacy, cybersecurity, or related legal areas.
  • Must be currently located in the geographic area of the position or willing to relocate yourself.

Responsibilities

  • Litigation Management & Strategy Manage a diverse array of litigation matters, including commercial disputes, transportation claims, employment litigation, and regulatory actions.
  • Drive end-to-end litigation strategy, including analyzing case merits and exposure, evaluating dispositive motions, guiding and assessing early settlement decisions, and helping develop trial strategies and themes for high-stakes matters.
  • Direct and oversee outside counsel (OC), ensuring alignment with UPS’s nationwide legal strategy and cost‑management expectations.
  • Oversee discovery, including litigation holds, document production, and coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Risk Evaluation & Legal Guidance Identify, analyze, and mitigate legal risks across the enterprise, ensuring UPS’s legal positions are consistent and defensible.
  • Conduct legal research on applicable laws, regulations, and policies to advise on positions that best protect the company.
  • Support and guide internal investigations and fact‑finding processes related to potential or pending legal matters.
  • Provide clear, business-oriented legal guidance to operational leaders, HR, Compliance, Risk Management, and other key partners.
  • Compliance & Business Support Partner with business units to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Review and draft key legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, settlement agreements, subpoenas, and other litigation-related materials.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments impacting UPS’s litigation exposure and operational risk.
  • Financial & Administrative Oversight Manage legal budgets and monitor outside counsel billing to ensure cost-effectiveness and adherence to UPS billing guidelines.
  • Prepare reports, metrics, and forecasts relating to litigation trends and legal spend.
  • Potentially supervise legal administrative personnel, providing direction, development opportunities, and performance management.
