About The Position

The Laboratory Informatics Manager fulfills a leadership role in the Department of Laboratory by leading and managing the laboratory IT team. They shall be responsible for leading their team through the design, implementation, and support of all laboratory applications across the health system. They shall oversee all tasks necessary to ensure reliable operation and protection of Clinical Laboratory Information Systems to provide safe, secure, quality information management that meets patient, caregiver, institutional and department needs. The position combines leadership experience with clinical and technical expertise across a variety of laboratory operational systems, departments, and platforms. This role requires exceptional leadership, management, and communication skills with a strong ability to develop interprofessional relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry Physical, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical technology
  • Bachelor of Science in Biology
  • High School Graduate
  • 5 or more years supervisory and/or technical work experience in the operations of a clinical laboratory and 5 or more years information systems related experience
  • certification as a medical technologist (ASCP or AMT registry, or equivalent) within 180 Days

Responsibilities

  • Provides effective leadership to the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine through direct management of Laboratory Informatics employees and daily team operations.
  • Able to strategically identify, internalize and communicate the critical success factors necessary for the unit/team and provide direction and project management to their direct reports.
  • This position assumes responsibility for team meetings and updates, team goals, educational needs, training, and certifications.
  • This position will be available or have a designee available for contact on a 24/7 basis for urgent issues that may arise.
  • Demonstrates the ability to successfully manage multiple projects including: scoping, setting and monitoring milestones and deadlines, tracking and reporting progress and issues, ensuring appropriate workflow diagraming, testing and documentation, ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations from CLIA, CAP and TJC, and ensuring project completion and conclusion.
  • Manages organizational responsibilities in a way that supports the achievement of unit/team goals.
  • Works effectively in an interdisciplinary team to accomplish departmental and organizational goals, develop effective workflows and to identify and resolve problems.
  • Skillfully administers, directs and allocates all organizational resources.
  • Stays focused on all key stakeholders and support the team’s ability to deliver on all valid stakeholder expectations.
  • Assumes responsibility for project and team communication to end-users, project requestors and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates personal effectiveness in leading the team toward its goals.
  • Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to develop a team-wide spirit and intra-team and inter-team cooperation.
  • Understands the concept and design of the current Clinical and Anatomic Laboratory information system, PC based office systems and proprietary utility systems used in the laboratory.
  • Excels in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, communication, and technical skills.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
