About The Position

The lion leader, student employee is essential to student success. A lion leader contributes to the intellectual and personal growth of new students by offering insight and support before and during the first week of classes. This position also facilitates positive interactions among families and first-year students. A lion leader is trained to guide new students through important aspects of their transition to Lindenwood University’s academic and student life.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at Lindenwood University
  • Good academic and financial standing with the University
  • Must be available to attend all anticipated dates of employment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to assist with student move-in and/or event setup
  • Adequately mobile to travel around campus
  • Regular in-person attendance is a necessary and essential function

Responsibilities

  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values
  • Provides guidance and support to new students by helping them acclimate to university life
  • Serves as a point of contact for new students; answers questions and provides information about campus resources
  • Leads small group sessions, campus tours, and other orientation-related activities at summer and fall New Student Orientations (NSOs)
  • Works closely with other lion leaders and University staff to ensure cohesive and effective orientation programming
  • Co-leads student groups through summer and fall NSO programming to help them work through their fears, develop important skills, and understand the rigors of college life
  • Assists incoming students and family members with move-in; provides a warm and friendly welcome and assists with answering questions throughout NSO
  • Attends lion leader trainings and participates as a positive team member
  • Assists with various informational and social events related to summer and fall NSOs
  • Ensures an inclusive environment
  • Contributes energy and excitement to the lion leader team; maintains an inclusive and welcoming environment while interacting with incoming students
  • Maintains timely attendance for all shifts, sessions, and trainings
  • Completes all employment paperwork and required online training prior to lion leader training
  • Makes referrals to appropriate resources during orientation-related activities
  • Job may require other duties as assigned.
