The Linen Distributor/EVS Support is responsible for delivering linens and performing inspections of linens. In addition, the person in this position may be required to perform a variety of environmental services duties to ensure a clean, sanitary, pleasant environment essential for quality care of patients, visitors, and staff. The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the Environmental Services Linen Distribution along with having the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates. This is a full time, Monday - Friday, 6am - 2:30pm position. WORK ENVIRONMENT The individual in this position reports to the Environmental Services Director. This position works closely with all hospital staff and other Environmental Services staff in order to provide a clean, sanitary, pleasant environment.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Skills/Competencies: Ability to read and write and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be alert to hazards.
  • Knowledge of common cleaning supplies and equipment; mops, dry and wet vacuums.
  • Ability to use ladders.
  • Must be able to rotate between Linen and Environmental Services duties.
  • Demonstrates competency on equipment listed on department specific checklist.
  • Critical thinking skills: Seeks resources for direction, when necessary.
  • Performs independent problem solving.
  • Decision-making is logical and deliberate.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Occasional climbing and crawling/kneeling.
  • Ability to lift /carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent walking, sitting/standing, reaching, pushing/pulling, lifting, carrying, bending/stooping/crouching, twisting/turning and repetitive movement.
  • Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.

  • Experience: One-year Environmental Services or Linen Distribution experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Verify and account for the linen order from the previous day and amount of linen on shelf currently.
  • Place linen order daily and fax to linen company.
  • Place linen order Thursday each week to cover Friday-Sunday.
  • Project linen needs over holidays.
  • Monitor scrub supply to maintain an adequate supply and sizes for all areas.
  • Adjust order as needed.
  • Verify proper linen supply for Sterile Processing, anesthesia sleeping area (post-partum), doctor’s lounge, and changing rooms.
  • Sort and deliver scrubs to appropriate department or area.
  • Deliver Nutrition Services Department’s aprons, towels, and potholders, as well as deliver towels to Espresso stand.
  • Unloads, stores, rotates, and delivers clean linen, rags, and mops.
  • Count and deliver linen to departments/areas on each floor of the hospital.
  • Restock shelves for afternoon deliveries.
  • After deliveries, restock shelves with remaining linen.
  • Fold linen (i.e. wash clothes, towels, and blankets).
  • Maintain monthly log of linen usage per department (i.e. number of items/poundage) to charge each department for their amount of usage.
  • Maintain pillow supply to accommodate all patient areas.
  • Monitor the quality and quantity of linen and replace as needed.
  • Tag and bag all damaged linen and return for replacement.
  • Monitor linen bags for distribution.
  • Keep track of cubical curtains for all areas and verify they are returned.
  • Notify Environmental Services Tech I for that area when the curtains are returned for reinstallation.
  • Follow-up as needed.
  • Mark linen for offsite locations and give to the Courier.
  • Call and adjust order based on the amount of linen on hand.
  • Perform environmental services duties as assigned.
