About The Position

Under the direction of the Supervisor – Distribution Crew performs journey-level tasks in constructing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing underground and/or overhead transmission and distribution lines.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Successful completion of the Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship Training Program or other equivalent lineman training program.
  • Thorough knowledge of electric transmission and distribution construction, materials, standards, circuits and related equipment.
  • Ability to acquire certification from Department of Transportation (DOT) within six months of hire date.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be in compliance as defined by the El Paso Electric Company's Driving Policy.
  • Available to work shift, overtime and/or irregular hours.

Responsibilities

  • Constructs, maintains, relocates, diagnoses problems and repairs transmission and distribution lines (overhead and underground) and power transformers.
  • Installs, removes or changes equipment such as, but not limited to, poles, guy wires, crossarms, transformers and associated devices, sectionalizing switches, capacitors and street lighting.
  • Climbs poles and structures and works from aerial devices at various heights.
  • Works on wooden poles with weight supported by body belt, safety strap and pole climbers to position large transformers on poles; lifts heavy materials/hardware and attaches equipment to poles.
  • Acts, as required, as lead lineman, directing the work of the crew.
  • Complies with all applicable Company policies, procedures and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations.
