About The Position

Job Summary: Are you looking to start or advance your career in culinary production? This position is your opportunity to join a team of great people in a stable work environment. Located in the kitchen of the Memorial Union, this position is responsible for cooking and prepping our breakfast, lunch, and dinner catering orders. Gain experience by creating your own prep list and directing others to get it done. Work alongside other full-time food service professionals and part-time students to achieve the common goal of being the premier food venue for the University of Wisconsin. The successful person in this role will be ready to learn, be able to collaborate with other departmental teams, be a team player, and a good communicator. Physical Demands: Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds occasionally needed. Work Schedule and Location: This position is scheduled to work a combination of days, nights and weekends. Operational and work schedules will be closely aligned with the services and customer needs of our units. As a result, work schedules will be adjusted during specific times of the year to meet demand.

Requirements

  • 6 months of previous kitchen or large batch cooking experience
  • ServSafe Certificate required or able to obtain within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
  • Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
  • Greets customers, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation and associated activities
  • Trains and guides student workers
