About The Position

The Line 4 Mill Operator is responsible for safely operating and maintaining mill equipment to process rubber compounds, ensuring proper blending, stripping, and preparation of materials according to specifications while maintaining cleanliness and preventing contamination. Requirements

  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts (7AM or 7PM start)
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to operate a forklift

Responsibilities

  • Perform safety checks, including emergency stops and belly bars
  • Maintain a clean work area, including mills and blender rolls, to prevent contamination
  • Sweep and manage mill pan materials, reusing clean material or scrapping contaminated material
  • Set and adjust TCU, mill roll speed, and nip gap based on compound requirements
  • Ensure proper temperature settings (e.g., mill and rubber temperature requirements)
  • Select and install appropriate knife bars and embossing plates as required
  • Ensure cooling systems and batch-off fans are functioning properly
  • Use a forklift to retrieve and stage materials
  • Safely handle extrusion rolls, slabs, and scrap materials
  • Feed rubber into the mill using proper techniques for slabs, rolls, or scrap
  • Manage cones and leftover materials appropriately
  • Feed rubber into the mill until proper band formation is achieved (approx. 400–500 lbs.)
  • Cut and rework rubber repeatedly until smooth, consistent, and free of air pockets
  • Maintain proper rubber temperature and consistency during blending
  • Ensure rubber forms a continuous band on the front roll
  • Operate strip knives to cut slabs or strips to required specifications
  • Guide rubber onto conveyors and adjust conveyor speeds for smooth operation
  • Apply dip solutions to prevent sticking and ensure proper coating
  • Monitor embossing processes when required
  • Inspect slab/strip quality after cooling and dipping
  • Adjust mill speed and feed rates to maintain continuous operation
  • Prevent gaps, breaks, or inconsistencies in rubber strips or slabs
  • Splice breaks and reprocess material when necessary
  • Use tools (e.g., hooks, knives) to guide and control rubber flow safely
