About The Position

The Laboratory for Isotopes and Metals in the Environment (LIME) at the Penn State University Park campus is seeking a Part-Time (10-24 hrs/week) lab technician for its geochemistry facility. The role requires experience or training in laboratory technique, particularly basic wet chemistry. The successful candidate will receive full lab-specific training on all methods and will work across various LIME analytical facilities, gaining broad experience in a wide array of analytical techniques. This position is part of a team and requires professionalism, dependability, and safety consciousness.

Requirements

• Experience or training in laboratory technique, especially in basic wet chemistry
• B.A., B.S., or a M.Sc. in some technical field that includes chemistry, or appropriate experience showing aptitude in analytical chemistry

Nice To Haves

• Experience in sample preparation for geochemical analysis and some analytical experience
• Coursework training or experience in geochemistry or chemistry (or a similar technical field) or both

Responsibilities

• Trace-metal cleaning of labware
• Weighing of samples and standards
• Performing routine dilutions using acidic reagents
• Using high-temperature ovens for solubilization
• Using and preparing acid solutions
• Assisting with routine running and general maintenance of analytical instrumentation
• Completing other lab-specific tasks as needed on a day-to-day basis
• Acid digestion of solid samples
