About The Position

The Lighting Department Head oversees the lighting dept in prep, operation, and maintenance of entertainment lighting equipment and ensures the successful prep of Clearwing shows and rentals. The ideal candidate is an experienced technician with excellent interpersonal skills who can uphold Clearwing standards and helps to provide a professional work environment both in-house and on job sites A successful Lighting Department Head displays leadership and management skills for both short and long-term success and is committed to maintaining excellent standards in customer service.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years' experience in entertainment lighting production preferred.
  • Working knowledge of lighting equipment in Clearwing inventory.
  • Forklift, Boom Lift, and Scissor Lift certified.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • OSHA 30
  • Lead a large crew and understand union/house rules.
  • Current knowledge of industry standards and technology
  • Calculates power consumption for systems, sets up generators, and understands 3-phase power.
  • Create and set up a networked system over ethernet and fiber.
  • Computer knowledge: proficient in Microsoft Office, and ability to navigate current lighting and networking software programs.
  • Able to set up and use a fall arrest system.
  • Assemble and build data racks.
  • Valid Drivers' License and Clean MVR.
  • Willingness to travel (occasionally on short notice)

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor employees by establishing expectations, and coaching,
  • Forecast staffing needs and pursue additional support with the Site Manager as needed.
  • Conduct daily briefings to delegate tasks and communicate company expectations to staff.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new standards, improvements, and efficiencies within the department.
  • Work with Lighting QC Techs and Lighting Technicians to double check gear lists for accuracy and communicate inventory discrepancies.
  • Work with Engineering to forecast equipment shortages.
  • Work with warehouse staff to pull, prep, test, maintain and restore lighting equipment and systems.
  • Setup and maintain lighting network systems.
  • Lead and direct QC Techs, Lighting Technicians, and Freelance crews to complete projects.
  • Assist clients/other technicians via phone, email, or in person to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and network problems effectively.
  • Collaborate with Engineering on show advance information for projects, plots, patch, signal flow, load weights, electrical calculations etc.
  • Enter and maintain project documentation in accordance with company standards.
  • Coordinate with Engineering to ensure design changes are reflected in inventory counts.
  • Attend project meetings as needed.
  • Manage both Lighting QC Techs and Lighting Technicians.
  • Conduct both annual and 90-day reviews.
  • Report all safety concerns to Site manager.
  • Assist other company departments as work demands.
